Stumbled upon this one a few minutes ago. Here's an excerpt:
I am not knocking this therapy (honest), I believe in the right setting and with the right people it works, but when you have someone who really doesn’t’ care what happens it is perhaps, not the right way to go. You could make the point-go to your doctor and get referred to a “Trick Cyclist”.
No thanks, been there done that, about as useful as watching paint dry, I really have a lot of sympathy for the so called “Mentally Ill” (a terrible label) but my worst nightmare is sitting in a group therapy session listening to how disastrous other peoples lives are, selfish? Yes but there is nothing I can do in a medical sense to help them and I am sure they don’t want to listen to me rambling on about my troubles.
It did help me in a way, it showed me that mental illness is a very personal thing, not every one who is depressed can be helped by therapy because there are different levels of depression, and the personality of that person has a huge effect on the outcome.
You'll have to read the rest of this bit to learn more about depression from the inside. The author doesn't seem to be too impressed by trick cyclists and their group sessions, though.
